In May 2025, Professor Philippe Pezard from Geosciences Montpellier – CNRS and Dr. Alexandra Dudu from GeoEcoMar participated in the 18th CO₂GeoNet Open Forum held in Venice. This forum is a key platform for knowledge exchange on geological CO₂ storage, bringing together researchers, industry stakeholders, and policymakers to discuss technical, social and regulatory aspects of CCUS deployment across Europe.
Prof. Pezard and Dr. Dudu attended high-priority sessions directly related to the project, including:
- Dynamic capacity assessments
- Public engagement: lessons learnt
- Financing and insurance mechanisms for CCS projects
- European CCS progress
- National CCS updates
- CCS project updates
- Meeting our 2040 climate targets: how do we complete our geological data jigsaw?
Engagement in these sessions gave our specialists the opportunity to exchange expertise with leading CCUS professionals, receive updates on latest European project and regulatory developments, and contribute insights to discussions on public engagement, financing, and storage strategies. These interactions also strengthened networking with other project teams, policymakers and industry stakeholders, helping to consolidate Eastern Lights’ position as a leading initiative in Eastern Europe’s CCUS landscape.
